Fine-tuning Topics on Tassomai! (Be Careful What you Wish for)
Here at Tassomai we are always trying to improve and adapt our product to best work for students, parents and teachers. A request that we have been asked about most recently is the ability to ‘pause’ sub-topics, rather than whole topics as was previously possible, on the Teacher Dashboard. You asked and we listened! But we urge teachers to use this feature with caution…
How it works
Select a class on the left hand side of your Teacher Dashboard, head to ‘Settings’ and there you will see the ‘Manage Content’ tab, where you can make changes. Teachers have always been able to deactivate whole topics if they, for example, hadn’t been covered in class yet e.g. ‘Cell Biology’, but it is now possible to expand these topics with a dropdown menu and see the sub-topics within them e.g. ‘Animal & Plant Cells’. Teachers can now simply untick these boxes, making certain sub-topics inactive and stopping that content from appearing in their students’ quizzes.
Potential challenges
The reason we are urging caution with this new change is that unticking multiple boxes within one topic is likely to cause issues further down the line with the students’ algorithm. What makes Tassomai’s product so intelligent and useful to teachers and students is its adaptability - the program is learning about the student every time they answer a question and uses this knowledge to personalise quiz content.
If the algorithm is limited by too many ‘inactive’ sub-topics, then this ability to adapt to the individual is stunted. However, one or two inactive sub-topics won’t have too much of a negative impact and should help teachers to limit content that students haven’t covered yet. Just don’t forget to ‘un-pause’ subtopics when you’re ready for your students to see the content again, as they will not automatically reactivate!
Dos and Don’ts
Don’t ‘pause’ too many topics
Remember to turn sub-topics and topics back ‘on’ again when you’re ready to use them
Use the drop down menu to reveal sub-topics
Remember to save your changes!
We hope that teachers find this new feature useful and are able to use it in a way that benefits students as much as possible.
Make sure you are making the most of the Teacher Hub on our website and keeping an eye out for new updates! We always value feedback from teachers, so please get in touch to let us know your thoughts about the topic changes and whether they are working for you and your students.
